Silver market overview
The significant demand for silver stems primarily from its diverse industrial applications, with slightly over half of the annual trade attributed to multiple industries. Its malleability and physical strength make it a versatile material utilized in a wide range of modern products, including LED chips, alloys, nuclear reactors, as well as applications in medicine, dentistry, and water purification.
The remaining half of the silver market is predominantly dedicated to jewelry and investments in silver coins and bars. Due to the substantial allocation of silver to industry, in contrast to approximately 10-15% for gold, its value tends to be more volatile, influenced significantly by the varying demands of global economies.
Despite the fluctuating nature of its value, silver remains a highly sought-after precious metal, trusted as a long-term wealth investment. Like gold, silver is bought and sold through over-the-counter trading (OTC) facilitated by a dealer network, not a centralized exchange.
London Bullion Market Association (LBMA)
The ICE Benchmark Administration (IBA), tasked with the administration and governance of the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) Silver price, establishes the authentic benchmark silver pricing, denominated in US dollars per troy ounce. Although sterling and euro prices are provided, they serve as indicative prices solely for settlement purposes.

Silver coins and bars
Physical silver is predominantly traded in the form of bars or coins, with coins often commanding a higher premium due to their increased manufacturing costs and attractiveness to collectors. Collectible coins, commemorating themes ranging from Marvel Comics to Star Wars, also exist as their own unique market.
Silver coins are minted across various countries globally, with the significant production taking place across the UK, Australia, the US, Canada, China, and South Africa. The Canadian Silver Maple stands out as the most popular and widely traded coin, backed by guarantees from the Canadian government regarding its weight, purity, and content.
Other renowned silver coins include the Silver American Eagle, the Silver Chinese Panda, and the Krugerrand silver coin. Regarding weight, silver coins are commonly minted in sizes of 1oz, 2oz, and kilo. Silver bullion bars come in fractions of an ounce, multiples of one troy ounce, grams, or kilograms, with options for both parts and multiples of these units of weight.
